The good folks over at Cafe Royal (aka Craig Atkinson) asked me to contribute 10 drawings for issue two of their next publication. I picked up this pad of cotton graph paper at Utrecht with the intention of creating a series of drawings based loosely on 80's and 90's postcards from my childhood in Florida. This theme became overrun with darker imagery that seemed to want to bubble up after a holiday break in Ohio filled with conversations about religion (Catholicism in particular). For example, the first drawing originally included the words "Seven Mile Bridge" but as the theme shifted, a dark tree grew in the background and left only the word "Bridge." The explicit religious references become more subversive as the series moved towards the end. The originals of this small series will most likely make it into the 2-person show I'm doing in Boston this March (details coming soon).
Anyway Cafe Royal is swell and if you have some spare change and want to pick up an interesting zine or artist book from across the pond, then you know where to look.
