This is an on going series that will idealy be updated on a weekly basis. In the end I would like to print the book and make editions available for sale. The first of these drawings was already started some time ago and is entitled In Love With The Devil. The inspiration for this series comes largely from the ills of America. Central themes seem to hover around issues including government corruption, superfciality, the decline of education, the decline of culture, rise of relgious fanatiscm and belief in the supernatural, moral decay and the return to animal nature, celebrity worship, military aggression, obesity and over consumption, the arrogant and selfish, and the destruction of our environment. Many of my other works deal with these issues already, beneath layers of personal symbolism and abstraction. However this series is a bit more streamlined and for the sake of aesthetic and conceptual unity, I set up the following rules:
1) Use only 005, 01 and 02 black microns and number 2 pencils.
2) No paint
3) No color except for slight tea washes.
This stack of drawings sits on my kitchen table at home, next to a small jar of micron pens and number 2 pencils. They are useful for me to develop alongside the more abstract, loose, and colorful larger works that live in my studio. When develping one idea I always find it helpful to develop the opposite of that idea in order to find my bearings. The most recent drawing will be placed at the front of the gallery each week.
